Mr. Ray Arthur Hewitt was born July 29, 1949, in New Orleans, LA. He was the oldest child of Nerceal and Walter Hewitt. Ray moved to Flint, MI as a young man and became employed to General Motors Flint Truck and Bus Assembly where he worked in the body shop as a dedicated metal fab finisher for 39 years.
Ray was the strong silent type but enjoyed spending time with his family. He loved being in the country and could be often found doing different projects. He was a devoted father and grandfather who loved reading, fishing, watching sports on television and traveling. Ray was a self-taught master of many skills, such as building additions to his home, building sheds, working on his vehicles and tending to his land. He was truly loved and will never be forgotten. "HE WAS EVERYBODY'S FAVORITE".
He leaves to cherish his memory; Beloved daughter and caretaker Toinette Webster, son Terrance Sales- both of Flint, MI. 5 brothers- Jerry Hewitt of Flint, MI, Coney (Gail) Hewitt and Ricky Hewitt, both of New Orleans, LA, Michael Hewitt-Young and Hilmon Jackson of Los Angelas, CA.
4 sisters -Sandra Addison and Gwen Williams of La Pace, LA, Bronis (Gerald sr.) Bailey of Memphis, TN and Carolyn (Gregory) Dillard of Menifee, CA.
Grandkids -Tenise, Lamar, Jerome, Alaisha, Sage, and Malachi.
Great Grandkids- His little helper Miss Tay'Ana, Zay'la, Karter, Zay'Den and Sergio.
Aunts -Mama Rose Guy, Cora Lee Lewis, Lontee Allen, Lorraine Cusey and Annie Dooley
Special Cousins - June Guy, Roma Jean Baker, Kenny Lewis Leon Allen, Pam Lewis, and Meka Dillon.
And a host of cousins, other relatives and friends. Ray loved and was loved by so many.
Ray was proceeded in death by; Parents - Nerceal Hewitt McCorkle and Walter Hewitt.
Sister - Gloria Gibson
Aunts - Beloved Aunt Mildred (Elmo Smith) Ruth Helen Lewis, Azrine Causey, Rosa Lee Burns, Doris Sanford, and Edith Dillon.
Uncles - L.C. Causey, Oliver Causey, Curtis Hewitt, A.V. Hewitt, Arthur "Bill" Hewitt and Lavoice Hewitt.
The family would like to express sincere gratitude to Brenda Shelton and Shawna Miller, UAW Local 598 (Chad), Moons Funeral Home and Washington Funeral Home. We would also like to thank all who have prayed for us, called or otherwise helped to ease our sorrows during this difficult time. We have received lots of support and we would like to extend LOTS OF THANK YOUS!!!!
A public visitation and funeral will be held on Saturday, February 3rd, 2024, at Washington Funeral Home, located at 714 Second Street, Tylertown, MS 39667, interment will be at Mt. Moriah Cemetery.
The visitation will be held from 12 - 1PM and the funeral service will proceed promptly at 1PM.
